Man or Astro-Man?

1998 Tribute

One of the few non-event specific posterwerx I've done.

The action figure concept is one that had germinated for a long time, and the then-distinctive astro-guises of the individual Astro-Men made for a natural pairing. What prompted my course of action was the band's impending lineup change and their eventual uniformity; I either commemorated what they no longer were going to be or I was to scrap the idea. At one point in 1998 Bandai of Japan really was in the works of developing some Man or Astro-Man? action figures and that further fueled the desire to hatch my idea first!

Of course the joy was in the selection and rendering of the details: headgear, instruments, effect pedals (with biohazard logos!). Also, each Astro-Man comes with a color-coded raygun.

A final curiousity is what was involved to get all 4 Astro-autographs on a copy of the poster for my archives since the lineup ceased before it was ready.

Step 1: await local 11/98 stop of the Archers of Loaf tour that 'StarCrunch' is guestplaying with.

Step 2: priority mail poster to Athens, GA tavern where 'Dexter X' bartends.

Steps 3 & 4: await Linuxworld Astro-gig 3/99 to nab 'Coco' and 'Birdstuff's' signatures.
